5 months ago – 1.5 billion tonnes of the world’s largest vegetables have been cut from India’s crop in recent years, forcing the country to import some from neighbouring countries and import more.
The government has also been pushing farmers to switch to less costly varieties of vegetables in order to help stem the tide.
In the wake of the government’s announcement, The Wall Street Journal has published a list of all the crops that are likely to be gone next year.
It’s not a complete list, however.
According to Bloomberg, most of the vegetables that are no longer grown in India are likely only to become available again in a few years.
